My Thesis

Abstract pattern art and landscape paintings are like two distant lines crossing the topology. The inspective gaze suggests that these two separate and seemingly dissimilar entities may be extended into longer lines which eventually meet and become one in the same. Further removal reveals a single and flattening line. Oddly enough, these terrestrial lines astonishingly meet again at some distant place where they mysteriously swap identities.

So, do abstract patterns construct the landscapes? Can landscape paintings be abstract, and abstractions might be of landscapes, funny? Can a pattern be abstract? Can an abstraction be a pattern? I had an abstract for a pattern to be found within a beautiful mountain stream painting, we called it color. Color paint. What is said? I see a landscape of abstract color patterns to be painted. Color paint takes all landscape painting into an abstraction where color is the pattern that augments reality with visual appeal.

As conceptual art, my concept is to simplify a works experience in order to increase the aesthetic appeal value of any given work. Simplification would aim at the convergence of natural realism with the abstract pattern.

My abstract pattern art uses the same approach as landscapes only differently. Here the color is again the tool used as an abstract pattern to render the emotional feeling of the work. That the similarity, and I add this on the differences. My drawn abstract patterns must be strong and uniquely distinct. Near optical illusion or perspective play properties are needed to reinforce a work for realness.

Curiously to me, this is where landscape painting and abstract pattern art augment each other in an unexpected way. Landscape paintings are fun because the challenge is to construct and recognize a scene. Not so in abstract pattern art. What is a seemingly difficult for the first is not, and the challenge to the second becomes natural due the effort from the first. My landscape paintings become better due to the likeness to abstract patterns and abstract patterns help my landscape painting.

This is my basic concept for arriving at clean paintings with a high degree of aesthetic appeal. The diversity of my media is actually like the lines on the land as they blend together to be one.
